Strain description Hexokinase 2, which phosphorylates glucose to form G6P, is a key enzyme in glucose metabolism. A growing body of evidence has shown that HK2 is involved in cardioprotection. These transgenic mice overexpress human HK2 in the heart muscle and have no obvious abnormality. It was reported that cardiac overexpression of mouse HK2 attenuated hypertrophy by increasing pentose phosphate pathway.
