Strain description Strain with monosomic X choromosomal aberration (X/O). This strain also has tabby (Eda<Ta>) mutation that affects both the coat color and hair pattern growth. The mice having X<Ta>/O or X<Ta>/Y show yellow coat, no hair on ears and tail, bald patch behind ears, and no guard hairs. Meanwhile, X<Ta>/X females show agouti with mosaic striped due to X-inactivation.

Colony maintenance This strain is maintained using tabby as a phenotypic marker to keep monosomic X chromosome condition. When wild-type female (X/O) is bred to hemizygote tabby male (X<Ta>/Y) in the first generation, hemizygote tabby female (X<Ta>/O) is bred to wild-type male (X/Y) in the second generation. On the contrary, when hemizygote tabby female (X<Ta>/O) is bred to wild-type male (X/Y) in the first generation, wild-type female (X/O) is bred to hemizygote male (X<Ta>/Y) in the second generation.
