Strain development Spontaneous mutation arosed in C57BL.
Strain description B6.Cg-Kit<W-v>. Viable dominant spotting. Spontaneous mutation arosed in C57BL. The Kit<W-v> mutation arose spontaneously in the C57BL strain. Heterozygote for Kit<W-v> are gray with light belly, white spot, light tail and feet. Homozygous mice are white with black eyes. The c-Kit cDNA from Kit<W-v>/Kit<W-v> mice showed an AC to T point mutation at nucleotide 2007 that resulted in the change from threonine to methionine at position 660.

Strain development Spontaneous mutation originally arosed in C3H/HePas. The B6.C3-Kit<W-f> congenic strain was generated by backcrossed to C57BL/6 by Dr. Y. Kitamura, then deposited to the RIKEN BRC.
Strain description B6.C3-Kit<W-f>/Rbrc. Fertile dominant spotting. The original Kit<W-f> mutation arose spontaneously in the C3H/HePas strain. The B6.C3-Kit<W-f> congenic strain was generated by backcrossed to C57BL/6 by Dr. Y. Kitamura. Homozygous mice for Kit<W-f> are black with white sash. Typical dilution of pigmented areas not observed. The c-Kit cDNA from Kit<W-f>/ Kit<W-f> mice showed an AT to TA transversion at nucleotide 2474 that resulted in the change from Arg to Trp at position 816.
